A MOOD, NOT A CHECKLIST

Quien lo vive, es quien lo goza.

A brass band turning a corner at full volume. Maicena, foam, and strangers hugging you like family before they know your name. Cumbia at 3pm, champeta at midnight, ajiaco at dawn. You don't watch Carnaval — it happens to you. This is the front row, palco, and after-party combined.

Your Journey

6 days of living Carnaval de Barranquilla like a true barranquillero — VIP palcos, legendary restaurants, and the world's most authentic carnival traditions.

* Itinerary subject to change based on weather and local conditions.

🗓
Fixed Dates — Cannot Change

The Carnaval de Barranquilla follows the Catholic calendar and is always held the four days before Ash Wednesday. In 2027, this falls Feb 6–9 (Sat–Tue), with our package running Feb 5–10. These dates are fixed by UNESCO and the city of Barranquilla — it is impossible to experience this package on any other dates.

1
Day
Arrival + Reading the City
Barranquilla City Tour: Centro Histórico · Gran Malecón · Barrio Abajo
  • Arrive Barranquilla Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. Transfer to Hotel del Prado 5★ — a Barranquilla landmark since 1930, set in the heart of the city, minutes from its best restaurants and nightlife.
  • Barranquilla City Tour to understand the roots of Carnaval: Centro Histórico, the Gran Malecón del Río, and Barrio Abajo — the neighbourhood where carnival traditions were born.
  • Optional · Coronación de la Reina del Carnaval — the official crowning of the Carnival Queen: a grand theatrical show featuring international artists, live music and cultural performances. Separate entrance fee applies — our team will coordinate access upon request.
  • Welcome dinner at La Cueva (included) — Barranquilla's most legendary bar-restaurant, a historic gathering place for the city's intellectuals, painters and poets. García Márquez drank here. Alejandro Obregón painted nearby. Mompox musicians played these walls. Tonight it's ours, with a live musical guest setting the tone for the week ahead.

2
Day
Batalla de Flores (VIP Palco) + La Puntica Na' Más
The Saturday opening parade — Colombia's most spectacular day
  • Breakfast at the hotel (included). Transfer to your reserved VIP palco on Vía 40 — a covered grandstand with shade and seating, where food and bar service are available on-site at your own expense. Your spot is confirmed; the rest of the day is yours to experience.
  • The Batalla de Flores: Colombia's most extravagant parade — float after float of sequined costumes, Caribbean music and thousands of flowers. 200,000+ spectators. Our team will share a gastronomic guide with the best lunch spots near the palco.
  • Optional · Comparsa participation — march inside a real carnival troupe during the Batalla, with full costume, brief rehearsal, and an authentic spot among local dancers. The most immersive way to live this day.
  • Group dinner at a curated barranquillero restaurant (included). The Carnaval cultural agenda begins tonight: the city transforms after dark during Carnival week.
  • Optional · La Puntica Na' Más — Saturday night is the city's signature carnival event: a fusion of traditional cumbia and rave energy with local and international artists. Pure barranquillero euphoria. Separate entrance fee — our team will coordinate.
  • Optional · Bar Hopping Night — a curated route through Barranquilla's best nightlife spots during Carnival. Our team will guide you to the places locals actually go.
Stay: Hotel del Prado 5★
3
Day
Gran Parada de Tradición y Folklore
Congo Grande, Cumbia Sampuesana, original folk groups
  • Breakfast at the hotel (included). The most authentic day of carnival — traditional folk groups from across Colombia's Caribbean coast: Congos de la Bahía, Palayeros, Gaitas from the Montes de María.
  • VIP palco seats — this parade moves slower, more traditional rhythms, older dances, raw emotion. Often cited by carnivaleros as their favourite day. Food and bar service available at the palco at your own expense. Our gastronomic guide will point you to the best street food in the area.
  • Optional · Alternate plan — prefer a different Sunday experience? Our team can arrange curated alternatives for travelers who want to explore the city away from the palco.
  • Group dinner at a curated local restaurant (included). Carnival parties and cultural events run through the night — our team will share the agenda and help coordinate if you want to keep going.
Stay: Hotel del Prado 5★
4
Day
Gran Parada de Fantasía + Curated Nightlife
Modern floats by day · Barranquilla's carnival nightlife by night
  • Breakfast at the hotel (included). The fantasy parade: modern, spectacular floats and costumes created by design studios — maximum visual impact, maximum electro-cumbia, maximum glitter.
  • VIP palco seats — food and bar service available on-site at your own expense. Our gastronomic guide will have the best nearby options for lunch.
  • Optional · Alternate plan — our team can arrange curated alternatives for the day if you prefer a different experience.
  • Group dinner at a curated Barranquillero restaurant (included). Carnival cultural events continue tonight — the city doesn't sleep during these days. Our team will share the evening agenda.
  • Optional · Bar Hopping Night — a curated route through Barranquilla's best carnival nightlife spots, guided by people who actually live here.

5
Day
El Entierro de Joselito + Narcobollo
The bittersweet end — mourning the death of carnival
  • Breakfast at the hotel (included). Cultural stop at Narcobollo — one of Barranquilla's most iconic local food experiences, on your own. A mandatory detour for anyone who wants to eat like a true barranquillero.
  • El Entierro de Joselito: the most emotionally unique carnival tradition in the world. Hundreds of 'widows' (mostly men in drag) weep theatrically over the coffin of Joselito — the spirit of carnival — marking the end of the festivities.
  • The procession passes through the streets at sunset — a theatrical funeral that is simultaneously hysterically funny and genuinely moving.
  • Farewell group dinner (included): everyone arrives in their best carnival costume for a final meal at a curated local restaurant. One last night — the Carnaval cultural agenda is still alive. Our team will share what's on.

Real Travelers

The trip they won't stop talking about.

A few words from travelers we've moved across Europe, Turkey, and Colombia.

★★★★★

Honestly I just had to show up. Everything was handled — every hotel, every train, every dinner reservation. Mauricio was answering WhatsApps at 1am in Paris when our group got lost. You can tell they've been doing this forever.

I was skeptical of group trips — didn't want a boomer tour. Turkey with Osotur was the opposite. Cappadocia at sunrise in a hot-air balloon, rooftop dinners in Istanbul, locals inviting us to tea. They find the stuff you don't find on TripAdvisor.

Three of the girls from my Eurotrip are still my closest friends. The itinerary was tight but never rushed — real cities, real food, real nights out. Not a single moment of "what do we do now?" — and that's the part people don't talk about enough.

Frequently Asked

Questions we get asked a lot.

Straight answers. No fluff.

Why early February? Is the date fixed?
Carnaval de Barranquilla is UNESCO-protected and runs the four days before Ash Wednesday — the dates shift slightly each year based on the Catholic calendar. In 2027, Carnaval runs February 5–10. This is non-negotiable; the whole city shuts down and turns into one long celebration.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. Your guide and Osotur team are fully bilingual, and Hotel del Prado staff speak English. That said — learning a few words of Spanish makes Carnaval way more fun. We'll send a quick cheat sheet before departure.
What should I wear? How crazy does it get?
Carnaval is colorful, playful, and loud. White clothing is traditional for the opening parades (so you get painted and covered in flour and foam — yes, really). Comfortable shoes are non-negotiable. The energy is intense but joyful — not chaotic like some other festivals. Think organized explosion of culture.
Is Colombia safe for international travelers?
We've been running trips here for 60 years. Every route is pre-scouted, every hotel vetted, every transfer private. You'll have a 24/7 WhatsApp line to our team the entire trip. This is what we do.
Do your guides speak English?
Fluently. Every Osotur guide is fully bilingual — English and Spanish. No translation apps, no awkward moments. You'll connect with the culture directly.
Is travel insurance included?
Not included — we recommend buying it from your home country (World Nomads, SafetyWing, Allianz all work great for Colombia). It's inexpensive and worth the peace of mind.
How does payment work?
PayPal. Buyer protection, any major card, no account needed. $500 deposit holds your spot, balance due 30 days before departure. Fully documented, fully protected.
What's the cancellation policy?
Full refund up to 60 days out. Within 60 days, your deposit becomes a credit toward a future trip (valid 12 months). Within 30 days, standard industry terms apply. We recommend trip cancellation insurance.
Can I customize the itinerary?
Always. Our packages are the most popular routes, but we build custom trips constantly — honeymoons, family groups, extended stays. WhatsApp us with what you're thinking.
What exactly do I get with the VIP palco?
Covered grandstand seat with confirmed assigned numbering at Batalla de Flores — the main Carnaval parade. Clear sightlines, food and drink access, shade from the Caribbean sun, and zero standing in crowds for six hours. It's the way locals with connections experience Carnaval.
Can I come solo? What's the group vibe?
Absolutely. Group is capped at 20 travelers and most arrive solo. The vibe is young, intentionally mixed, and social — shared meals, group activities, nights out together. You'll show up a solo traveler and leave with a WhatsApp group that keeps running long after the trip ends.
What if my flight is delayed? February is peak season.
Carnaval week is Barranquilla's busiest — flights fill and delays happen. Send us your flight info once booked and our on-ground team coordinates your arrival. If you land late, we reroute transfers and keep the plan moving. You'll never be stranded figuring it out on your own.
